Before joining Alliance for Justice, April taught undergraduate legal studies in Italy and Afghanistan for the University of Maryland and Central Texas College. While in Afghanistan, she organized a humanitarian aid project which provided medical and school supplies to local Afghan children and clothing and medical items to women and children’s hospitals. During law school, April worked with various public interest organizations, including the National Lawyers Guild, the ACLU of North Carolina, and the Innocence Project.  She spent two summers as a law clerk for the DC Public Defender Service. In 2001, April was chosen for an Albert Schweitzer Fellowship.  She spent her year as a fellow advocating for victims’ of domestic violence in North Carolina.
