Liz Towne
General Counsel and Director of Advocacy Programs

Liz is General Counsel and the Director of Advocacy Programs, responsible for directing both the Nonprofit Advocacy Project and the Foundation Advocacy Initiative. In this role, she directs Alliance for Justice's efforts to strengthen the capacity of the public interest community to influence public policy and to increase foundation support for nonprofit advocacy. She served as Senior Counsel for the Nonprofit Advocacy Project from 2001 through February 2003. Before joining Alliance for Justice, Liz served in the Clinton Administration in the Office of General Counsel at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Prior to HUD, she was counsel to Gore 2000, Inc., Clinton/Gore '96, and the March Fund for Cancer Education. Liz authored Give Me Your 990: Public Disclosure Requirements for Tax-Exempt Organizations and co-authored Investing in Change: A Funder's Guide to Advocacy. (J.D., D.C.
