Melynda Majors (A.B., Rollins College; M.P.A., Florida State University, Reubin O'D. Askew School of Public Administration and Policy) is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive grants strategy for AFJ's Nonprofit Advocacy Project and Foundation Advocacy Initiative. A gifted writer and nationally recognized expert on service-learning and youth civic engagement, Melynda has over fifteen years of programmatic and operations experience in public and private organization settings and has published extensively. Originally from Orrville, Alabama, she interned for the late Senator Howell T. Heflin (D-AL) in 1991. Before joining AFJ in 2007, Melynda variously served as Director of Operations and Business Consultant for Storming Media, LLC; Civic Engagement Researcher for the Center for Media Education; Program Manager for the Forum on Faculty Roles & Rewards and for Service-Learning Projects, American Association for Higher Education and Affiliate, National Campus Compact; and, Program Coordinator for Youth Act! and Teens, Crime & the Community, Street Law. In addition to her work with AFJ, Melynda concurrently holds an appointment with Trinity University (Washington, DC) as Community-Based Learning and Research Coordinator where she assists university faculty with facilitating campus-community student service and student-led research efforts and periodically lectures in the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences.
